Yet Gold readily dissolved by mercury, the simplest way to refine it. But separating the two is also one of the most toxic, as you literally have to boil the mercury out of the gold. Note that mercury vapor is highly toxic and one of the few ways mercury can actually get into your bloodstream.

I never tried turning lead into gold, but I did one time try to create a human body using the elements of the periodic table. After that I lost my left leg and my sister, who was helping me, was gone. Luckily I found a suit of armor in the room and transmuted her soul into said armor and it cost me my right arm. After that my neighbors, who were both mechanics and doctors, gave me prosthetic to allow me to walk and find a way to fix what I’ve done and after many years of searching for a solution to me and my sister’s problem we finally return 100% to the flesh and blood.

Slytherin represent acknowledging Cleopatra's and Mary's work, not to mention the one who supposedly accomplished the creation and is still alive to this day, Nicholas Flamel. Rutile may be next? Or maybe Larimar? Or both since they look so different from each other it could make an interesting Gemologist vs. Geologist episode?
