'Edinburgh Does... Taskmaster' 2016 - Task 2

"Edinburgh Does... Taskmaster" is a 2016 show at the Edinburgh International Television Festival. Hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne, it features five TV executives — Alan Tyler, Claire Zolkwer, Jeff Ford, Nerys Evans and Zai Bennett.

This is absolutely amazing. Assuming they're filming the main series in front of a live audience again this has strongly made me want to catch them doing it live some time...

This is great, actually - something we'd usually never get to see, as it's basically just an industry-centric game for fun. I like the insight it provides, into both the game, and the business, just a little bit. It's sort of like opening up the back of the clock to watch the mechanism work.

Also, it highlights how 'stressful' being in the TM house for the tasks can be - they chose the tasks carefully to be relatively simple, and in the players' wheelhouse, and still panic took over a bit. I thought for non-comedians, they took it really well, and were humanly funny in spite of that. Bravo. 👏

I have to say I loved this and I found it very funny. The format really is adaptable to any line up of people. The Baretta moment is a prime example - genuinely funny piss take. It’s all about the editing and Greg and Alex’s banter (and a warmed up audience I would argue). I genuinely think a public one off version (maybe three episodes or something) should be worth considering.

Tried to give it a shot - after my own 'panic'-instilled block disappeared, started with AbFab, Broadchurch, Coronation Street, Doctor Who, Eastenders, Grantchester....

Here's the thing. I'm American, and I've never even seen three of those. 😂 I honestly don't know why all I could think of is UK telly.

I do know Baretta, though, ha ha.

Baretta was the template for realistic, edgy cop shows instead of copycat, Dragnet-type dramas. It was a hugwe hit everywhere, and was even considered extreme at the time.

It's so weird to see the location house footage played back without any audience laughter over it at all.
Alex could've been even more cutthroat with this task. That if you gave any of the names out of alphabetical order, you were disqualified, as opposed to simply not getting credit for those in your total.
