Here we finally begin to see part of how Euclid's system works. Propositions 1 to 3, all characterized as "problems" are in order:

1. To describe an equilateral triangle.
2. To copy a given line at a given point.
3. To cut of from a given set of lines, an amount equal to the smaller of the two from the larger.
