You can find my books under my two names down below! Nicole Brona is urban fantasy and Nicole Pierman for all other genres:

The phrase you were looking for regarding writing goes on without a period, the thoughts of the character, is stream of consciousness writing style. It can be very challenging to read because our thoughts are not always cohesive and comprehensive, so from the POV of a mentally ill person would be far worse.

Disturbing recommendations:
* Scott Smith The Ruins
* Clive Barker Books of Blood

So pretty sure the sundown motel actually is a motel in CA people can stay there. It's just randomly named that. Not sure if it's cuz of the book or visa versa.

Lists like this need some Edward lee, either the bighead or header. Good list

Regarding "The Exorcist" film, it's interesting you felt that way during the hospital scenes. After its release, Paul Bateson, the guy playing a radiologic technician, was implicated in a series of unsolved slayings in New York City. Maybe his screen presence contributed to your unease.

not related to the books (but absolutely reading some of these) but I found your channel from this video and just really appreciate how you present these books. I don’t know, I just love your vibe 💞

I’m so glad you talked about how it’s somewhat easier to read dark/hard stuff in books vs seeing them in a film. It’s the whole reason I can’t watch GOT, the books were hard enough!

my rec: the pillowman by martin mcdonagh
it's actually a play script so you can read it in one sitting and also one of the characters was portrayed by jeff goldblum in 2005, so imagining that does make it even better

I think "stream of consciousness" is the phrase you were looking for when talking about passages without punctuation.

Great list! I've only read we have always lived in the castle, which I loved, and I think I preferred to Haunting of Hill House.

A lot of the others have been on my TBR list for what seems like forever at this point.

I will say that American Psycho, the book, really doesn't take off until about page 150.

I read all of these except for Sundown Motel, I suppose I should give that one a read.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle is my favorite Shirley Jackson book. Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist are in my top books of all time. Father Karras is one of my favorite literary characters. I had fun with Maeve Fly. I need to revisit The Only Good Indians. I DNF it but then absolutely LOVED My Heart is a Chainsaw and Don'r Fear the Reaper. I may go back to TOGI after I finish The Angel of Indian Lake. I'll check out the other books you mentioned. Great video!

I loved both The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby books. The Exorcist movie came out when I was a kid. Some kids weren't affected by it. Other kids were terrified by it. I have Maeve Fly. I hope to read it soon.

Thanks for recs. I will say I love American Psycho and the prose from the ending monologue from the book is one of the most dark/bleak things ever written.
Also love Bret Easton Ellis in general.

Nothing by Richard Matheson made the list? Try I Am Legend, Duel, Stir of Echos, Hell House to name just a few.

Great list! I've read most of these and love them ❤
I really need to read Maeve Fly though 😮
I really think Rosemary's Baby gets down played with how disturbing it is.
