The Honourable Anita Anand addresses Canadians during Women's History Month

This video was produced by TBS Communications.

Transcript:

In Canada, every October, we highlight Women’s History Month.
It is a time to celebrate the women who have challenged the status quo, broken barriers, and made invaluable contributions to our society, and to our public service.
We remember:
Clara Brett Martin, Canada’s first woman to become a lawyer;
Agnes Macphail, the first woman ever elected to the House of Commons;
The work of the Famous Five;
and countless other women who fought valiantly for the rights we have today.
We also celebrate champions of inclusivity like Michelle Douglas, who challenged the ban on 2SLGBTQI+ people in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the federal public service.
We have made progress, but there is still more work to do.
This month, as we acknowledge the contributions that women and gender diverse people have brought, and continue to bring to our country, let’s keep fighting to build a more inclusive Canada, where everyone can participate and succeed.
Thank you.
