It's not as if IMAX has anything to brag about. After all ... 70 mm film has existed for decades, and many movies have been made with such film. Even the 3 Stooges short movies were made with 70mm film. The difference? Today's film stocks are far superior when compared to the older films, so the results look more clear and sharp, which is also assisted by sophisticated lighting techniques. Camera lenses are also better these days. Similar comparisons can also be made between hand held digital cameras when compared to medium format and large format film cameras. In brief ...
a 6 by 7 film camera offers prints on photographic paper which are far superior to the prints made on photographic paper from images of the best 35mm digital cameras.
At this point in time ... ONLY a large format digital camera of 50 MP or 100MP can hope to challenge the image quality of such a film camera.
