OTT Explained

Hey guys! It's Skyth and today I'm going to show you all how OTT works, what it does, how to utilize it, as well as show you things to avoid or be cautious of when using this Plug-in. OTT is the Ableton Multi-Band Compression preset that, not too long ago, got a standalone version created by Steve Duda of Xfer. While The standalone version is not exactly like the one you see in Ableton, it still gives amazing results if done right.

I forgot to mention if you Ctrl (Command) + Left Click the colored bands on OTT, it disables that band. Pretty handy if you don't want a certain band being compressed.

Great video. One observation - at 2:15 you mention that the grey band's width can not be modified. Is this not achieved by the upward% and downward% knobs? 50% on both equals double the range - 200% a very narrow range which is half what is shown in grey. Is this correct? If so, perhaps Xfer could better visualise this by changing the width of the grey band according to those knobs ☺️ Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I installed it but there is no visual rash and the sound isn't changing

One issue I’m having is I’m using OTT to record vocals and for whatever reason I’m getting a of white noise when playing it back

The kick hitting twice is the kicks tail. Learn about envelopes if you want punchier drum samples without a ton of individual processing.
