Born Ron Wycherley in Liverpool in 1940 at the age of five there was a fellow classmate called Richard Starkey but he was a sickly child who was in and out of hospital a lot where he learned to play drums and was held back a year. Ronnie was part of the British rock n roll scene pre Beatles and was renamed Billy Fury by his manager Larry Parnes that included Cliff Richard, Marty Wilde and Adam Faith, later he did some acting, check out the film That'll Be The Day, a kind of Brtish American Graffiti although it was made first where he teamed up with his old classmate once more.

He was a very gentle soul and got the name from his manager as pure irony. Died far too young early British rock n roll.

Oh and it was released in 1960 he had so many hits in that decade he equaled the Beatles but was born with a heart defect and died at the age of 42 in 1983 of heart failure.
