In Power BI, a primary key is a unique identifier that is assigned to each record in a table and distinguishes it from all other records in the same table. A primary key is typically used to establish relationships between tables and ensure data integrity within the data model.

A foreign key, on the other hand, is a field that is used to reference the primary key of another table. The foreign key establishes a relationship between two tables and allows data from the related tables to be combined and analyzed together.

Cross-filter direction refers to the direction in which a filter is applied in a relationship between two tables. There are two possible directions for cross-filtering in Power BI: "Single" and "Both".

"Single" direction means that filtering one table will only affect the data in that table and not in the related table.

"Both" direction means that filtering one table will affect both the data in that table and the data in the related table.

Cardinality refers to the number of unique values in a column of a table and the relationship between those values and the values in another column of another table. There are four types of cardinality in Power BI:

One to One (1:1)
One to Many (1:N)
Many to One (N:1)
Many to Many (N:N)
The cardinality of a relationship determines how the data from related tables will be combined and how filters will be applied between the tables.

@Gyan On Tube - This is one of the best and most simplified explanations I’ve seen on YouTube about Primary Key, Foreign Key, Cross Filtering, and Cardinality in Power BI. The way you explained it in easy language made it super clear even for beginners like me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge so generously.

I’m currently learning Power BI through Udemy and YouTube, but I feel I need personal guidance to really understand how to work on real reports. I’m from Hyderabad, Telangana (India), and I would be truly grateful if I could get an opportunity to learn from you directly — even for a few days — just to see how real-time Power BI reporting works. Please let me know if there's any way I could connect with you for mentorship or training.

Thank you once again for this amazing content! 🙏✨
