I have the Navian which has not been flushed in 7-years. It started to shut down so I looked up how to service as it was a combo-boiler. It had isolation valves on it so I followed the descaling instructions and it works like BRAND NEW

Rinnai always told us not to use haymaker. They prefer vinegar or citric acid. But honestly never heard of any issues with haymaker. A lot easier to carry up the attic.

Does it matter which side you pump through? Like is it better to back flush hot < cold or flush cold < hot

this is very easy to do so long as you have the right pump. you can totally do this yourself.
