This was my favorite map to play on this game and I spent many many hours here. I remember the chinese fighter jet was better than the american one so taking a helicopter over to their base and jumping in one as they spawned. Because it could turn faster than the USA one it had an advantage in dogfights so when the opposing jet was taken out just go destroy the other team till its time to take out the jet again.

Had so much fun with BF2 back in the day. Almost 20 yrs ago my room mate and I had both our PC's and heavy ass crt monitors in the living room and get on the same map and squad lol. Probably thought we were the first ones to do it. They were good times for sure.

Man I miss this game so much. I loved playing AT and SF - it was so satisfying to infiltrate enemy lines to blow up their arty, radar, and UAV trailers.

No algorithms to gimp the outcomes of gunfights to keep less talented players playing. No ridiculous hit registration issues. Good old gaming fun.

Wake Island (while simple) was one of the best conquest maps ever made. Before we played BF2, we played the BF1942 Desert Combat Mod of it. Just when you thought you were about to win, you always had to watch for a defender swimming across the lagoon to recapture a base which would give them all a new lease on life. EA knows they make trash now. Like every other AAA publisher today, It's not about fun. It's about just creating just enough fun for you to endure their politically correct characters and the implied social messages while satisfying the 'shareholders' and the intelligence agencies.
