Fly Fishing Colorado, Holsinger's Fly Shop
Показать описание
I finally made it back out west to do some fishing and had a lot of fun while we were there. The reason for going to Denver was to take in a Christian music festival at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. There is no way I'm going to fly to the Rocky Mountains and not take a fly rod with me though. On this trip I took both my Syndicate Reaver 2wt and my new DiamondBack 1wt. We were told by one of the customers at the shop, Jim Toth, to check out the Middle Fork of the South Platte River. It turned out to be a great lead and we got into some really nice wild brown trout.
I only had a limited amount of time while I was out there to fish, so I tried to make the most of it. Just because you are fishing a different area in the country doesn't mean that your tactics need to change. I used the same techniques to catch fish in Colorado as I do back home in Pennsylvania. I looked for holes and pockets in the stream that looked like the streams back home and sure enough, trout are trout, they were there.
When we were there there was a PMD (Pale Morning Dun) hatch coming off. I've been out west before when the PMD's were coming off and know that our sulphur patterns from the east will work for them in a crunch. One of the main differences between the PMD and Sulphur is that the PMD is a little but more of a pink shade in the thorax. Knowing that fact I looked through my box and seen a small Sexy Walt's with a pink bead and it was the magic ticket.
Materials List:
HFS Jig Hook Size 18
Firehole Slotted Tungsten Bead, 2.5mm Pink Panther
140 Denier Rusty Brown
Krystal Flash Pearl
SLF Pattern Blends, Red Fox Squirrel Nymph Thorax
