The skills needed for a physician assistant residency

I have officially started my residency in emergency medicine! Monday was orientation, Tuesday was all about the EMR system, and tomorrow will be a full day of lecture.

I've spent a lot of time brainstorming on my path to becoming a PA fellow, and as I was sitting next to the other residents, I was thinking about all the qualities we all must have had to become a final candidate.

Today, I want to share some of those qualities with you.

Something the other fellows have eluded to was the lack of sleep and or disrupted sleep schedules we'll be having. I never really made sleep a priority in school, but I do plan to do this during residency.

When I'm tired I always remind myself that medicine is my passion. I know it may sound corny, but we've dedicated ourself to the medical field. If we can't take care of ourselves, then we can't take care of our patients.
