The Magical Solution of Just Having the Correct WORLDVIEW

Показать описание
By dismissing all opponents of having the improper worldview, many evangelicals simply exempt themselves from actually having to engage real world arguments. It's a cheap debating tactic, and it has negative implications. Instead of participating and leading public discussions like our Christian forebears, these evangelicals severe themselves from the public square. We as Christians, called to be stewards of our society, should be doing the opposite: we should enter the fray and grapple with our enemies on the battlefield.

We also discuss Trump's big speech and other events in the news.

Worldview is the basic framing that one views the world through. If I'm a Platonist, I will come to different conclusions than if I'm an Aristotelian.

Cjay is so right to say people aren't rational. Any idea that must have people be rational or consistent to an idea has little to no explanatory power.

Biblicist Worldview vs Augustinian Metaphysic. Great labels for each.

As a Texan, CJ, Lyle Lovett covers this in his music, we always get our jeans a couple sizes longer. In fact, they really can’t be too long. It’ll look awesome. Go off, get a 36, it’s your call, come April you’ll fit right in.

Wolfe's nuts on this ..and I agree with White ..(rarely). Catholicism is extremely diverse since Vat 2...Do you guys NOT know this ...Everything from de facto atheists, modernists, to rad trads.

you're not representing the presup argument very well. It's not that people can't learn things without being saved or that the stability of the universe can't be observed by non believers. It's the acknowledgement of the believer that it is God who has established all these things and who is the author and granter of truth, whether to a believer or non believer, all knowledge belongs to God and is revealed to men as he grants it to them. Even a secular scientist when making a discovery (without the bible, without a regenerate heart) doesn't do so on neutral territory, he does it in God's creation, with God's breath, and with prior knowledge that was granted to him through revelation. When he does make the discovery, he can only recognize it as God grants it

I'm a mathematician and every so often we get dragged into this inane worldview conversation where we're asked to prove that we're doing math from a Christian worldview. Inevitably this begs the question, how is doing math in the Christian way different from say a Buddist or an Atheist doing math. I've yet to hear a meaningful answer these many years. The fact is that the general revelation of God is independent of our particular suppositions. The reality of this generality is in fact testified to by the undeniable fact that reprobate non-Christian humans have and are currently doing good math.

CJ's point that humans are not universally logical in our decision making is exceedingly important. The assumption of good faith rational actors is more often wrong than right. This goes both ways. In mathematics, there are plenty of atheists who work as if there work means something despite accepting the import of their worldview ultimately leads to a meaningless existence from top to bottom.

So, yeah, the assumption of worldview thinking that humans are normatively good faith rational actors is fundamentally corrupting to the method of analysis. Going back to math, the better question to ask is whether or not the beauty in mathematics testifies to the existence of a reality beyond the material. Even secular jews testify to this point, see Love and Math by Frankel (but skip the last chapter).

Finally, 33:33 is so far the highpoint of this video, Biblicists in view of the Lego Movie, this is a fantastic analogy. That really helps.

a denial of the knowledge of the created order undermines natural revelation, which from reformers to modern scholars agree is how God reveals things to man, so that we might know.

A people can discover truth apart from scripture. They just can’t keep it.

Love you brothers but need to tighten up the format. Need a docket that you stick to and to flow through them in an organized focused manner. Now isn’t the time to get sloppy.

Ok, I'll admit i'm not finished with the entire video yet, AND that maybe I am the one who is misunderstanding you. 😊

I disagree with the use of Darryl and Virgil's book as an example. After listening to the climate agenda episode in 2023, it was clear that "climate change", as D&V defined it in the episode, is not about the data but about the beliefs. The data is NOT what pushes the climate change agenda. The data has been countered in the appropriate field. however, despite these counters, the climate agenda is pushed hard.

The episode deals with the underlying ideas and beliefs that prompt scientists to ignore the data and continue to "find" proof where there is none. Most christians are ignorant of christian history, tradition, AND biblical understanding of creation and stewardship. They blindly accept whatever is presented by the so called experts. D&V seek to educate christians in the religious beliefs that pervade the sciences and lead to faulty reasoning despite the data. Yes we engage with the scientific arguments like stephen said, and I fully believe D&V would do that. But when the scientific arguments are irrationally ignored, something else is going on. Both are required to deal with the issue effectively. I also think Stephens comment on X was hasty and he didn't "do the reading" before commenting. haha!

I encourage you to listen to the episode from 2023 and see if your critique still fits. Perhaps I am missing something and am open to pushback. I'll finish your podcast now, and I'm sure there will be much agreement! Thanks for all your work! :)

Ok, last comment! (Great episode, btw.)

The biblicist method is something that I see in the Omnibus curriculum by Veritas Press. This is the curriculum that Doug Wilson had a major part in producing. Overall it is a great curriculum for someone who is trying to teach their kids about Western Civilization and make sense of the books you will read. Ancient & Middle Ages time periods are great, but the Modern Age has been a mixed bag...especially from a historic angle. But I digress...

The Biblical Analysis section, I have noticed, has a tendency towards a biblicist take. A verse MUST be found to support the argument. Most times it works because the Bible will not contradict what is true in reality. However, there are many instances where it is so obvious that the writers are reaching. Instead of using natural revelation to support the argument, they use a verse that really has nothing to do with the subject at hand. In those instances, our group just ignores that part and we do our best to use natural revelation to shape our thinking of the world.
