*Nick's Manipulation Game*
Watching Brooke correctly perceive and actively encourage Deacon and Amber's mutual attraction reminds me of when Stephanie tried to put Ridge and Brooke together so she could get back Eric. I called that storyline The Manipulation Game (Season 5 and 6) and I can't help thinking how much better _this_ storyline would be if it replicated what made _that_ storyline pop. Two things in particular stand out from The Manipulation Game: Stephanie had her own selfish stake in the outcome and the web of desire was much more complex. It wasn’t just Stephanie wanting Eric who wanted Brooke who wanted Ridge. There was also Taylor who wanted Ridge, and even Blake who wanted Taylor. That allowed for all these overlapping interests and unusual alliances – not just Stephanie and Brooke working toward the same goal but also Blake scheming with Stephanie, and Eric encouraging Taylor. The whole thing felt crackling and alive as if the wheel could spin in any direction.

For this current storyline to replicate that, I think they needed to ditch the Bridget and Deacon angle and fast-track the palpable chemistry between Brooke and Deacon. From the beginning, this should’ve been _Amber and Brooke_ fighting over Deacon. How did they NOT go for that angle when those two already have a feud? That way Brooke would have the same selfish motivation and have to make the same sacrifice that Stephanie made in the older storyline i.e. to get the man she loves, she’d have to push her son on a woman she hates. Brooke would have to encourage Rick to pursue Amber just as Stephanie encouraged Ridge to pursue Brooke even though they both wanted better for their sons. Then to make the web of desire as complicated as the older storyline, they should’ve kept that tennis girl around (what’s her name?) as a temptation for Rick. That would force Brooke to oppose the relationship that she would normally want for her son (just as Stephanie had to oppose Taylor who she actually respected more than Brooke). So you'd have Deacon torn between Amber and Brooke, Amber torn between Deacon and Rick, Rick torn between Amber and Tennis Girl, and all these interesting scenes between unlikely pairs trying to advance their own interests.

And I also would’ve kept CJ around – because he’s a good actor and a core character and because he’d be waiting on the sidelines hoping that Amber ended up with neither Deacon nor Rick so she would come back to him. And guess who could’ve been CJ’s friend and counsel as he pines for Amber? _Bridget!_ Who would initially be hoping CJ gets what he wants because she doesn’t want Amber with her brother. They would function as a Greek Chorus and the most pure-hearted pair in the whole storyline thus earning their surprise happy ending when - soap twist! - CJ and Bridget fall for each other and become the new Thorne and Macy (one Spectra and one Forrester).

Anyone else tired of Antonio's indecisiveness about getting the HIV/AIDS test..? I know it's a soap, but damn they are dragging this out too frigging long. Glad to see Amber finally admit her feelings and desires to Deacon.
