What Is SPICE and Why is it So IMPORTANT? - Star Wars in a Minute

Spice is a highly illegal substance that is in high demand among the criminal syndicates of the galaxy and many in the coruscant and corellia underworlds. Spice is primarily mined from the Spice mines of Kessel which are owned by Pyke Syndicate and is mostly staffed by enslaved wookiees, stolen from Kashyyyk’s jungles.

The wookies were beaten and forced to both mine and refine the spice into medical substances or recreational substances and in rare cases it also had scientific uses… Lets just say many people around the galaxy were addicted to spice and it’s soothing effects. On top of all of this there were multiple variants of spice, which each provided different effects when mixed. These included glitterstim spice which was the most addictive and powerful, ryll spice which was used for scientific and military purposes, as well as sansanna spice for drug production and general use.

The Pykes were so addicted to their own product that they created suits which have spice tubes embedded, allowing them to huff the substance at all hours of the day…

Han Solo dumping a crate of Spice when imperials boarded his ship is also the reason Jabba the Hutt had beef with him and was owed money in a new hope. So remember, don’t do spice!
