I will never forget hearing "September" for the first time a few days before Thanksgiving of 1978. My brother came into the house from his car and told me there's a new EWF song on the radio. There was only one black radio station in town so I knew which one to dial into and was just able to hear the last verse and refrain of this joyous tune.

I love you touched on "In the Stone" possibly my favorite song by EWF. I played it in high marching school band in the 80's. Love your analysis. Our band teacher (RIP E. Paschal), told us that song and EWF would be talked about for decades in the future. Here we are.

This song is beyond incredible....the groove, harmonies and chord progressions are amazing. Doesn't matter what mode I'm in, when I hear this song it creates happiness and makes we wanna my kids growing up love it.

Earth Wind and Fire, groove in all that they play. Back in the day, that is part of what set them apart. Powerful groove, great stage show, iconic vocals and punchy horn section combined to make them one of the biggest and successful groups in my lifetime.

Who can pick one fave??? September, Let's Groove, Boogie Wonderland, and Fantasy are just some of mine. :) I also love I'll Write a Song for You and Be Ever Wonderful. (All 'n All might be my fave album.) Before covid I played an electric wooden djembe (and other hand percussion instruments) in a band, and I loved riffing off EW&F drum lines. Serpentine Fire (with its backbeats) was a fun one. I got to see EW&F in concert back in the 80s, and will never forget the show. SO great! At a magic show around the same time, when Evolution Orange came on over the speakers I almost jumped out of my seat.
I also wish I knew 1/975th of what you do about music. Thanks for sharing your amazing knowledge and talent!
