His bigest mistake was that he didnt support Thrawns Tie Defender Projekt. Instead the resources were used for two Death Stars which united the people to an alliance. Tie defenders with experimental Ties, Thrawns missle boats, Tie Pfandoms and lancer frigates would save most of the lost star battles. Also he should used Thrawn on Carida to train naival officers and for big battles.

Allowing Anakin to live after he was chopped up and burned was Palpatine's 2nd biggest failure. By doing this, Palpatine set up his own demise which occured by the end of Return of the Jedi.

I love that this backfired and many of the books suggest Anakin and Obi-Wan were much much closer to accidently creating one instead.


Also because pregnancy is body horror, he very much was forming one with Padmé.

It never could have worked anyway. What a ridiculous thought. Sidious, whether or not he got his ideal Dark Side Anakin/Darth Vader, was always going to rule him by power and fear. Such was the nature of the Rule of Two. You can't have that if Vader can hear all Sidious' plans before they bear fruit.

And he still managed to fuck it up. Vader never truly embraced the sith, never surpassed Palpatine, and even worse turned back to the light.

In a sense Palpatine sort of did create a dyad, just not for Anakin and himself. Palpatine (and his genetic material / clone shenanigans) has made a point of intertwining himself in several generations of Skywalker affairs. Perhaps he deserves a bit of credit that a Dyad suddenly manifested between a Skywalker (Ben) and a Palpatine (Rey).
