Reviewers are simply repeating misleading information about cvt, most likely from some reviewers in the United States. Cvts are NEVER slow. The sound from transmission sounds as 'if' the transmission is struggling when in fact it is not. It's a question of people from traditional automatic not being used to how it accelerates.

Most reviewers review subaru cars in the default intelligent mode which is meant to increase fuel efficiency by reducing the rpms hence the lag. Try it in sport mode or sport # and see the difference
