This is so true. You can RELY on your train getting cancelled, which means you can use any train you want. Quite a few times, I've arrived EARLIER than was planned because I could use a high-speed train that way. Still annoying, because it's such a gamble. But it feels good when it works out.

Yep! When your train gets canceled you’re allowed to use any train to reach your destination, as long as it’s the same type of train that’s on your ticket! You can sometimes get a lot better connections than your original one that way.
This also applies to situations where the train has a significant delay or when the delay of your current train that you’re already on makes you miss your connecting train

This is always the greatest thing to happen. Delayed trains will also go faster in an attempt to minimise the delay as much as possible. So you'll end up saving more time than normal.

I've literally done that myself.

The fun thing is you can get tickets that are tied to a specific train and are a bit cheaper because of it. But when that train gets cancelled, your ticket is no longer bound to it and you can board any other train going to your target destination, even the more expensive ones.

That's also why you shouldn't pay to reserve a seat, if possible. You probably won't get that seat anyway.
