For me, rooting my device is essential for it to run acc daemon, since lineage os (the only available custom rom for my device at this moment) does not provide any built in way to limit the charge level of a battery and I haven't seen any no-root-required alternatives to this as stated in the video. And no, I don't want to keep peeking at my device every 10 minutes just to make sure it's not overcharging.

Also with rooting, you're not "constantly using your phone with administrative privileges". Magisk asks the user for root permissions when an application tries to perform any actions that may require these. User may decline or accept the request, and ask magisk to remember the choice (Magisk will display a popup each time the application was granted root permissions). This seems more like a user-friendlier version of sudo than constantly using root account.

Hi there, you forgot a step!

After enabling OEM Unlocking, DO NOT FORGET TO ENABLE USB DEBUGGING (scroll down in the developer options)!!! You wont be able to actually use the commands if this option is not enabled!

Pretty much the only thing that sucks about (modern phones) the Pixels is that there is no headphone jack and no sd card slot.

There's still a pretty solid reason to use root and that is being able to fully backup Android's app data and all settings. Not possible without root. Not any flavor that I know at least except for Huawei, which... is a bit of another can of worms altogether.

Also root isn't exactly like running every command in a CLI as user root, preferably with a "-y" flag. Root permissions ought to be granted to software individually and can even be granted just once. So it's not exactly like "su -u" or logging into your graphical session as "root".
It compares a lot more to logging into a session of a user who's part of the wheel group.

At least that's my experience with Magisk. Not sure if KernelSU is different, which is a pretty popular root method among some these days next to Magisk, probably because it doesn't trip Google Play's integrity check (aka SafetyNet)

installing custom ROMS is very easy mostly on Google Pixel devices. When using devices like Sony, Nokia (This was my worst experience), and Samsung I've had to use every trick in the book. First it's a hustle finding the stock ROM (You will need this in case you soft-brick your device). I hard-bricked a Nokia once. LOL. I've also done the process on some other brands but it's always different and kinda risky.

Non-A/B One Plus owner here. Stuck on Android 13 forever. Can't even roll back to 12 or 11.
No one bothers keeping customers informed about that...

I wish it was “easier than ever” but Samsung phones seem to only run signed binaries these days, and at least for my Xcover 5, this lock hasn’t been cracked yet, so I’m stuck with whatever Samsung provides. :|

I have been struggling with my Samsung M31. I am tired of how hard they have tried to prevent me from using a custom rom. I am comfortable with using shell. But fastboot does not work. I do not have a windows system so, I can't use the Odin tool they have. Now, I'm trying to install game porting toolkit to run Odin tool on my mac. Idk how it will go, but this time, I'll get it running.

Have you had any issues with google play services? I've been looking at things like graphene OS but my main concern is just stuff like banking apps.

edit: i've now learned that graphene gets you to lock your bootloader so that's different to what i'm used to from other custom roms, it should probably be fine then if you don't root.
