The reason why no one can obtain this original Drum sound is due to the set up. The drum skin is wound ridiculously tight so to avoid long release times and to get high attack, then they recorded through really awful mics they had lying around, add the fact that they have obviously EQ'd everything in the mix, used some kind of compressor we don't use no more & then pressed it to plate in MONO! It's crazy work but I remember Geoff Barrow still recorded drums this way to scratch into his works of Portishead. The lengths we go to just get a characteristic sound.
