Total War: Three Kingdoms has new DLC - A World Betrayed introduces a new chapter to the story, focusing around Sun Ce and Lu Bu. In this Let's Play, we play as Sun Ce - a man who, historically, pushed his luck until it ran out. And so we take our own approach, and push our own luck. Within moments, we push it too far, and perhaps we're destined to repeat history.

It's almost like people get upset when you kill their best friends! Whoops!

So since it looks like there aren't many other 3K people in these comments, (and I'm guessing maybe you aren't familiar with the original?) some context for what's probably happening with Zhou Yu.

Zhou Yu historically was a big name - he was Sun Ce's best friend and went on to play a huge role in helping Sun Ce's brother, Sun Quan defend and ultimately defeat Cao Cao's attempt to conquer the south. The first thing that happened when Sun Ce returned to the Southland after his father's death WAS that Zhou Yu returned to his side, and you even SEE his name in some of the game's events (even though of course, he's not here). He's not just some dude who would show up in your character pool.

What I think happened was that the game intended for you to move to one adjacent province, and it would then give him to you via event. But instead of doing that, the dice gods proclaimed that you declare independence, and since you were then at war with the province you were otherwise going to, the event never proc'd. This means that there is now no natural way for Zhou Yu to join your court, even though he is essential to several events, and now that he's faction heir, I'm not sure how he'd ever consider joining even if captured. Furthermore, one event seems to imply, somehow, that Taishi Ci, now a faction leader might join - at which point Zhou Yu would presumably come to rule the faction. The most important takeaway here is that since most players probably have Zhou Yu by now, it's doubtful that CA has written any other events to give him to you by script. The best chance now, presumably, is that you take Taishi Ci, he joins you by event, you destroy Zhou Yu's faction but don't kill him, and then he enters your character pool at random.

I want to be clear though - this is awesome. I love this this situation has developed and the role play is amazing. Imagine - Zhou Yu had every intention of joining his old friend, but instead of coming to see him, he declared independence - an idiot move strategically and politically. Thinking his old friend still crazy (which is mildly historical - the two counterbalanced each other) he allied to his nominal lord Liu Yao and spent the rest of the time watching Sun Ce conquer things, torn between his old friendship and his duty and sense of righteousness and moreover sense. Now as Liu Yao died and named the noble Taishi Ce to succeed him, Taishi Ce, a wise and administrative type, tells Zhou Yu he'll succeed his faction, and sends him out to do battle against his old friend, to whom he is now steeled against.

And this would never have happened without the dice~ So I continue to advise that at ANY time when a decision is ambiguous, you use it, even when there's an obviously wrong choice. Love how this has turned out, hope some of that context may be helpful!

The results of dice fall on a bell curve. That means that although the results are from 1-60, the most common outcomes are the ones from the middle.

For example, rolling 2d6. Results are from 2 through 12. To get a 2, you need both die to land on 1. To get the number 7, you could get 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4, 4 and 3, 5 and 2, or 6 and 1.

So if you continue to use the dice, unless the thing you're rolling only has 2 choices, then the middle option(s) will have a higher chance of being chosen. Maybe instead of rolling 1-60 just roll a single 1d12 die, that way it can still be split into 2, 3 and 4 options, and all options will have an equal chance

There was a time when Taishi Ci and Sun Ren were united under kong rong and fought side by side...
Today her brother eliminated Taishi ci army for money...
Damn this game's unpredictable

As per which dice you should use, all the choices seem to have 2 to 3 options. So just rolling a single D6 might work better for you.

Also, love the addition of dice to a character who is literally drive by luck, Nuffle be praised.

I have never played or watched anyone else play this game, and I can’t even pretend that I understand all that is happening, but I am enjoying it! Watched the first episode as it was something new on your channel.... and I had previously only watched the Planet Zoo content. Some of your other series were already pretty far in and I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to watching them all from the start... so this seemed like a good starting point. I am glad that I did, and looking forward to seeing what develops and how long Sun Ce’s luck holds out :)

Nice episode. That guy you killed in the beginning, Wu Jing i believe, is actually your uncle. Mommy must be very upset now that you killed her brother :)

Taunting your enemy is a very old tradition in all wars. While in the game it's just their for flavor, it would have been a whole lot of fun if a certain character can be so witty that he taunt his enemy to tears lol. Also, for a while now you had LIU CHONG IN THE RECRUITMENT POOL MAN!!!! That's like one of the best Commanders in the game. Yeah you were broke but that shouldn't matter for a potential minister.

Zhou Yu is supposed to join you on the second turn of the game but by declaring war early on Yuan Shu you lost the opportunity for him to join you. A shame since with him declaring Sun Ce as a rival i highly doubt he would ever join you.

All in all, you are a very good tactician and can win some very difficult battles. However, Strategically you have been making some mistakes in the campaign map. Keep it up though

Hope to see the next speculation vid for Warhammer 3 soon. The next faction being Nurgle would be ironic.

You should start selling some food for money per turn from your neighbors, an you may definitely regret not joining a coalition if they all declare war on you. And yeah when you betrayed Yuan Shu you missed out on Zhou Yu

For me, the best way to line up your troops is by putting your archer in front of melee unit.

If enemy march forward. They have extra range to shoot at rather than putting them at back & they can also soak up arrow from enemy's archer. Just so that ur melee troops have much beef to fight.

You can see the breakdown of your income sources (Commerce/Industry/Peasantry) by hovering over the Commanderies label in the Treasury window. If you hover over the Trade label, you will see exactly how much each trade agreement brings you and what resources you gain from it.

Really enjoying this play through. Glad you told that privileged brat Lu Bu to bugger off.

You could probably get some land with how much he wants peace. Then turn against the bandit for the next 10 turns. Avoids losing the fishing port.

You should look out for legendary characters in court candidate section, or else you could be missing out on good generals.
Like so PartyElite sees

Taking the city of Poyang will give you Taishi, I think I saw that, so just don't kill Taishi on the way. You might be able to get Zhou Yu some way like that too.

Delegating easy battles is fine if it's pursuit of getting to the more interesting battles. That's the way I like to see it. Love Sun Ce and this playthrough. Also try and remember that "Zh" is always pronounced as "J". in Mandarin.

Enjoy watching your videos. Few questions ... 1. Why do you always leave commanders admin empty? 2. Same goes for Invoke Council 3. Before accepting deals, would you wan to always negotiate cause some times you can get a lot more.

You might want to replace one of the archers with the trebuchet and if you want to give characters that fit the criteria or just good characters you could look to your court because you can get some legendary characters in there once in a while and you can find others that are the age and the criteria that you need them to complete the mission
