A chapter by chapter verse by verse study of the book of Proverbs.

Solomon is the third king of Israel, Solomon was famous for his wisdom. In 1 Kings Solomon asked God for wisdom to lead God’s people and God answered that prayer. Solomon is the author of the majority of Proverbs. When Solomon came to the thrown after his father David. God said to Solomon, “Ask of me what you desire.” (2 Chronicles 1:7 1 Kings 3:3-13) Solomon prayed and asked the Lord that He would give him wisdom to lead and govern God’s people. And the Lord said to him, because you did not ask for fame or riches or honor, but you ask for wisdom, I will grant unto you what you ask, but I will also grant unto you what you did not ask for. I will give you wealth, honor and glory. The scripture says that God gave wisdom unto Solomon. Unfortunately in his later years, he didn’t follow his own counsel and advise given here. The result will be seen in the book of Ecclesiastics. A man who had everything, but had nothing. A man crying out about the emptiness of life, because he did not continue in wisdom. The Book of Proverbs focuses on practical life wisdom more than theological ideas. Yet it is founded on a vital theological principle – that true knowledge and wisdom flow from the fear of the Lord.
