I am not a train enthusiast in the slightest, and I only watch these videos because the YouTube algorithm somehow sucked me in: but what impresses me about this retrospective is the clear acquisition of expertise over time, by dint of enthusiasm, investment of time and resources, and a consequent growing familiarity with the source material. It reminds me of my own journey with classical music. And it's a nice lesson in how "book learning" isn't the be-all and end-all in acquisition of profound insight.
