Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 12k - BEAST or Gimmick? My Thoughts on the Announcement

Blackmagic just announced the brand new Ursa Mini Pro 12k, and I decided to break down some of the noteworthy specs and my initial thoughts and impressions on their announcement.

Yes, that's right... Blackmagic just announced a camera that shoots 12k resolution. Yes, it's TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. No, I can't afford it. Is it a beast or just a gimmick? Did they put Canon to shame or is this just overkill? Let me know what you think of the new 12k Ursa Mini Pro in the comments!

Using the rgb sensor allows for full frame raw in 11, 8, 6, and four K.... No other current camera can do that. Four cameras in one. Doubt they will add pro res.

Anyone have use for 4K slo-mo? I certainly do! Now I understand your point that you don't yet have the clients for it, but how else do you prove that you can handle any potential clients for it? By having product that uses and takes advantage of the increased capabilities. Deep zoom-in without loss of resolution, the aforementioned 4K slo-mo, ultra wide panorama shots at large events, I can think of many valuable uses for it. Now to start saving my pennies...

I was eying a Canon mirrorless about a year ago, mostly for photography but also for the 4k video option. I can't even get up for anything nowadays so anything this expensive which requires an expontentially higher rate of use and hopeful return on investment is out of my perspective let alone budget. Everything is about utility at the moment. I want to get something which I can get great mileage and ups my output and return substantially.

I read that as Blackmagic Ursala for a sec, thinking this was a Little Mermaid review ;) but alas is it not. This cam is pretty massive for a new cam but it packs a whole lot inside so kinda makes sense. 12K seems extreme, I had no clue 12k was even a thing yet. What happened to 4K isn;t that the norm now? Jesus man lol

220fps in 4K 😱 Holy crap! I haven't shot with a Black Magic since the URSA. Excited for this! But yeah I won't buy it either. Happy with my Sony A7sII. 12K is hilarious..😂 Would love to see The Mandalorian being shot on this.

I think it’s an overkill. But progress is always somewhat of an overkill, depending on your perspective. I for one am really really impressed.

OMG I am still filming on my phone in 4k and 60 frames, but that is all I need. I export in 1080 for YouTube so this is way out of my league. But it interesting to see where technology is going

This camera ain’t really for us normies. $10k is actually really cheap compared to the RED cameras. I love my 6k and that is enough Ks for me

I just use my cannon vlog cameras for my channel. but that camera is cool and it works well for you guys but not for me tho.

Alrighty now... nothing like another episode of GEAR!!!! So you are talking about a new Blackmagic camera that's capable of capturing 12k footage. I have no clue why that's even necessary but I'm sure it does look phenomenal! This makes me wonder what kind of computer is going to be able to handle that kind off editing. And what editing program out there supports the crazy specs you're talking about. So many questions and not enough answers, YET.
