Nature photographer and naturalist David Hand’s main interest of study is salamanders, in particular the marbled salamander (Ambystoma opacum). In this presentation to the NHSM Herpetology Club, he shares information about the life cycle of the amazing marbled salamander, through his own pictures and video, and stories of his field observations.

This was awesome thank you David! I just came across a half frozen pond on a hike in NY with my twin brother this past weekend. Couldn’t believe it when I saw some little marbled salamander larvae swimming around! I felt much like you described in your encounter! Remarkable they can live in such cold water. Looking forward to seeing them grow to adulthood!
