It seemed (from this short clip) that Principal WAS aware of this student and his issue, and was perhaps devising a plan to eliminate some ignorance during the concert event…

Decades ago I had a student with Tourette's. He told me about it on the first day, and I told him I was familiar with the condition. The class knew him and we all just worked through it. A little knowledge, thought and communication made it easier for all of us.

When i was at my first base in the airforce, i knew the master Sargeant in charge of our tool crib and he suffered from tourettes. He was the nicest guy you'd want to talk to. I had no idea what he had going on until I read the base newspaper and he had written an article about it. Made me see him in an entirely different perspective. I had a longer indepth talk with him and gained an understanding of what he was going through. He told me not to feel sorry for him but to respect how difficult it was for him on a daily basis. He used humor to help him cope with his struggles and i had nothing but respect for a man who made a career in the military despite this.

My son had a friend that had emergent tourettes and it got worse and worse from little ticks until finally total outbursts in high school. Nobody wanted to understand because they didn't want to be responsible for doing anything or funding it. He finally at age 22 found a doctor that could help him and he's mostly medicated out of it. With the most heartbreaking things ever to observe as a parent

So the teacher send a student to the principality office, because he has Tourettes;

Had a kid like that in 4th grade.

I had heard he got expelled because when he was sent to the Principal's office, he walked home (we were on an airbase.)

Leaving school grounds was prohibited on an installation protected by barbed wire and German Shepard.

Anyway, his parents would breathe fire at the Principal and incinerate the PTA meetings.

A risky thing for a Sargeant to do when the Principal can involve an officer.

I felt sympathetic toward the kid.

This is why it’s important for all teachers to educate themselves on disabilities like Tourette’s and autism so they are a little more understanding and compassionate with their students ❤

I'm pretty sure that principal wanted to educate everyone about tourettes.

I was almost kicked of 4 grade cus of my disability. Teachers back in the 70s didn't know or want to understand my disability. I was born with spinal bifida.

My son has tourettes and we had to explain to the school that he has it cause she kept writing him up for being disruptive. After she was filled in she apologized with tiers in her eyes and everyone in classes where taught about tourettes the next day. It really warms my heart that the school went that extra mile to make him feel like just one of the gang ❤

I’m a teacher and I always have a special spot in my heart for kids with any difficulties. Physical or mental. Last year I got a first grader in my class who had a speech problem. He never went to kindergarten due to covid and he wasn’t used to a classroom. Lots of teachers told me to inform administration and get him removed from the class but I paid him lot of attention and was able to improve his speaking and he is really smart too. I’m so glad I was able to do that🥺💖

This was my life in school. I have severe Tourette's. I know what it's like to be in a quiet classroom unable to stop making noises with everybody staring at you. Then you're asked to leave.

That principal made it a point to educate everyone about what he was going through. He was a great principal.
