Im not sure the reason America uses the measurements it does, but the reason they don't use the metric system is because when the country was being founded, george washington had a friend if France who he wanted to bring over metric weights to America, but the guy got lost at sea and eventually died in pirate captivity (or something like that, im not too sure). Also, if you're ever wondering why American use units like was about 30 washing machines long" or something like that, it's because people know how long those things are and saying there are ___ about of them just kinda puts certain distances into perspective.
