imo I think that people should be way more open when talking about money and it shouldn't be such a secretive thing like it is rn

The fact that the teen wears the exact same sunglasses for ten straight years is either really dedicated to them or when you got a style when sticks it sticks

This actually reminds me of my first investment as a kid.
I was around 8 and asked if I could get some pocket money. My father said that if I was given money I wouldn't appreciate it's value, and if I needed help building a little hustle like a lemonade stand he'd lend me a hand.
But living in France, lemonade stands aren't a thing. I asked my parents if I could use the garden to grow pumpkins and sale them for Halloween. They agreed, so I bought like 10 bucks of seeds, which was huge money for me. All in !
Turned out this was one of the best return on investment I have ever made.
A few months later, the Pumpkins were ready and Halloween was a week away, Went door to door with a wheelbarrow a few Pumpkins at a time. Sold them for 5€ a piece, and sold about 30. Had some left to decorate, and a boat load of cash for my age.
Good times !

I remember when I was 8, I was so interested in money and numbers. My mom and family called me "rude, told me not to meddle in grown folks business" and other stuff. I lost my passion for that stuff. And I'm sure I would have turned out different if they would have just helped me understand the questions I was asking them

I'm going to say it now:

I will never, *ever* understand how or why it's "rude" to ask someone about their finances.

When my country entered a big recession in 2001 my father told my siblings and I what had happened to the economy and that we where walking on thin ice, because he didn't know if he was going to be fired at any moment or not. So he told us to make adjustments and not to be expecting any presents or even new clothes for a while, given the ramping inflation and decreasing value of money and salary. We understood and
Had fun as kids anyway, despite the economic crisis.

Transparency about money is so important, wish more families were like that! I'm grateful for the financial education I received from my parents and school.

My 6th grade math teacher actually stopped the lesson to talk about his income, taxes and debt and it was actually relatively good to the lesson because we were talking about percents at the time and we were talking about tips at restaurants

Holy shit- 1.2k likes.?!

I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without the internet. I’ve learned about personal finance and investments since I was 13 now at 17 I can assert that I know more than both my parents combined if not my entire extended family as well. Not a brag. Just showing that I would’ve ended up just like them if it weren’t for online education.

I asked my grandma how much her house costs and she gladly told me and explained what ways you can pay for a house. My other family members also don't hesitate to tell me things regarding money, it's nice to be informed.

I'm 29 and can completely relate with this. My husband is also 29 and we are both in debt, our parents and everyone one around us never talked about money, debt or investing so we had no idea what we was doing when we were just starting out. Thanks to the huge wealth of financial advise on YT, we are now at a place of understand and are finally able to start improving our situation.

We have a 22 month old and another baby on the way, we've already started putting money away into investments ISA's for them and will 100% be educating them about money and all the important life facts that schools never taught us.
