Russia these days is sadly only known for one thing. But have you ever heard of Tatarstan? It's the homeland of Russia's largest minority group: the Tatars. In fact, it's a republic with it's own language and religion. Tatarstan is a Muslim republic, but it feels distinctly different from the other Islamic areas of Russia like Chechnya and Dagestan.

I was on a journey across Eurasia I had decided to take trains to traverse Russia. The first major stop after Moscow was Kazan, the capital of the Republic and often considered Russia's "3rd capital". I decided to stay for a day or two and see just how different it was from the rest of Russia. And I definitely wasn't expecting the reception I got..

I'm loving this series on Russia. I know almost nothing about Russia and the geography there so it's opening my eyes to what this country is like! I can't believe they demonetized your first video. The girl on the bus that says she works in Maryland... I believe they are the summer workers. I used to live in Myrtle Beach, SC. Every summer they'd all come over from other countries and work the summers at the local shops like that. It was cool to meet them and talk to them. Very interesting people.
