SPIDER-MAN - From Page to Screen

After successful big screen adaptations of DC heavy hitters Superman and Batman in the 70s and 80s, Marvel turned their attention to striking back with a blockbuster version of one of their own hot properties: Spider-Man. The project languished in developmental hell for a few years before the success of X-MEN in 2000 seemingly got the ball rolling, with Sam Raimi attached to direct. SPIDER-MAN hit theatres in 2002, and unsurprisingly was a smash hit. Along with X-MEN it really paved the way for the action packed, humour filled and fun comic book movie that is now the standard Marvel template. Sam Raimi did a great job with the film and its sequel (*cough*) but how closely did the noted horror maestro follow the source material of Stan Lee's Spider-Man? And what other noted auteurs considered helming the film originally? That's what we'll be taking a look at in this editon of From Page to Screen!

X-MEN 2000 and Spider-Man 2002 really paved the way for Marvel before the MCU.

This video is poorly researched and riddled with errors. Peter's first romance was not with Gwen Stacy. It was Betty Brant, secretary of JJ Jameson. Only one TV movie was made as a TV pilot. Four episodes of the TV series which had two-part storylines were shown as movies overseas and packaged as movies on VHS along with the pilot movie. There was no Spider-Man film made in Japan. That was a TV series as well, and had nothing to do with the American version. Peter entering into a cash prize wresting match is not a departure from his comic book origin. He was a wrestler first, then appeared on TV due to a TV producer seeing the wrestling match.
