The first line grabs the attention but it is the C# note at the end of the first part that gives the sad ballad vibe and it totally hooked me and I loop listened it.

Thanks for this Levi, somehow I bought this guitar magazine I think in 2004 and was blown away, learnt it up to the first remotely fast part and then bailed. Zakk flew under the radar for me until about 2016 when I discovered BLS. Currently re attempting to learn this the last few days and it's helpful having the pickstrokes as I'm aware he gets such speed with those 2 note cyclical sweeps. I really have always found it hard to learn really fast stuff, even slowing it right down note by note it can be hard deciphering the phrasing. Thanks anyway, great video and tab, always a killer solo and hopefully I'll be able to get it this time round. Still taking many hours to get anywhere but coming along!

That's pretty much a straight forward andalusian cadence (i - bVII - bVI - V), isn't it? Love the piano based explanations at the end of the videos!
