Whenever there is threat to stray from the dharmic path, conscious efforts have to be made to preserve it and pass it on to the coming generation.

correct. They have been doing it for many years even after independence at national and international levels. Leftist/communists, Missionaries, conversion factories, muslim scholars, buddhists etc and with funding from many sources but big hindu organisations like RSS, VHP can do many things to help but they only focuses on elections so we have to do this at individual level. That is true.
Protecting dharma and prepared to sacrifice for upholding dharma are ordained in dharma shastras.
But sanatana dharma is different from other religions which were consumed by abrahamic religions.
As its name suggests it is eternal.
It is an honest pursuit for truth and how things are in reality.
It is self sustaining and its protectors are the vedic rishis and the supreme brahman.
Our duty is to practice dharma for its own sake.
If we practice dharma it will protect us.
