I live northern part of Washington State, only 20 miles away from Canadian border. People here drive up to Canada all the time. Some even commute there. I should check with my insurance agent before going to Canada next time.

Very good info! Just wanted to mention that rental car coverage can depend on the reason for the rental. For example, my policy will cover a rental as a replacement while my car is inoperable, but may not if I decide to rent a convertible for the weekend. There is also the issue of a household member who is not named on the policy driving a rental car. It may not be covered.

To piggyback on what you said about warranties or mechanical breakdown coverage- Be very careful buying these from a third party! If it isn’t from the manufacturer (or CarMax), I would stay away!

Dude I commented asking for your advice a week or so ago. Recently was in an accident and the other party was at fault and I'm in an at-fault state. Anyway I bought my car 2 years ago for $2, 500. I was waiting for the offer from the insurance, ready to deny because I knew it would be a lowball offer. To my surprise they offered me $5, 500! I guess they use a 3rd party and see what similar vehicles have sold for in my area. So I was really happy with that.

Now I need to call back the original claims adjuster and see how to get my lost wages reimbursed. Now I lost my job over this, can I seek more reimbursement for that? Also what else should I ask for? My fiance has had to take Uber to and from work since this happened, and it's well over $400 in fees so far. I am the only driver, so she relies on me for transport. Let me know, thanks!
