There's been a lot of talk regarding Star Wars lately, and since these are my favorite films of all time, why not spread my personal thoughts to my channel?! Here's the first video of many upcoming Star Wars related videos, and why I believe that Rey isn't a "Mary Sue," like so many people claim.

Connor Mcgregor got his ass beat by Floyd Myweather in a boxing match. Just because you can know how to fight a certain way doenst mean itll translate to a victory in combat.

a bit of an error, the millenium falcon exists since the republic era, and in the empire era it was already a very old and shitty ship.

You literally start with the scene where the guard "magically loses" his second dagger in one frame so he couldn't easily kill Rey.
That's a pretty dumb move for the argument you are bringing.

Our comments are not sword like weapons, just staves, Axes and Pistols.

I love listening to people that don't know what they're talking about and are just clearly wrong.

Don't waste your time with this video. The guy doesn't even know what makes a Mary Sue.

Rey's weapon of choice is a staff. Rey hasn't made her lightsaber yet. JJ is the one who gave her a staff in the first place, if he doesn't give her a double-bladed lightsaber I'll be shocked.

"all she did was lifting rocks" .... literally lifts a fucking mountain of rocks after 5 minutes of "training". Luke was training with yoda for days, weeks, months and could barely lift rocks. She lifts a literal actual mountain of rocks.

I will be comparing this to Luke as they had similar backgrounds. And Anakin too sometimes
"Ignores Lukes warning"
as did Luke with Kenobi and Yoda.
"Pushes wrong button"
And it turned out better than blocking them.

"Rey was scavenging ships so she would know how to fly one"
Rey has never actually flown a ship before and the MF is very heavily modified.
- Luke's father was a great pilot
- it was hinted that Luke was a good pilot several times
- it was really his only skill as of a new hope
- blowing up the death star was his only practical use of force in the movie

"Rey had practice with a staff."
If I remember it was 8 guards v the two of them, so lets put it as a 4 v 1
these are guards that have trained since birth to be the most elite fighters in the first order navy. I don't care how strong you are in the force, you never even had training with a lightsaber but you don't even win a 1v1 you win a 4v1.

"Were in a movie"
A step up from because I said so.

"She beat Kylo because she called on the force"
Umm.. Kylo diddn't? He is a direct decedent of someone who is literally conceived from the force he is stronger in the force than her. And he has training from the strongest force wielders in the galaxy. Rey was ticked by a leaf as her training.
Anakin trained for years, fought doku, who was 20 years older than him and lost a hand
Luke was trained by yoda for months, fought his father who had a suit designed to literally tourture him and hinder his movements, and lost a hand.
Rey got tickled by a leaf and and beat someone trained by two legendary forcewielders, in the skywalker bloodline, and was in their prime.

"As darkness rises, light comes to meet it"
A) how does this prove anything

"We havent seen Rey do much besides lifting rocks"
Luke struggled to call his lightsaber to him on Hoth
Kylo tried to read Rey's mind FAILED and somehow REY READ KYLO'S MIND with ZERO training on that aspect of the force while kylo had plenty.

"Luke fails and learns from his mistakes"
Good. And does Rey? Oh wait she doesn't make mistakes.

"Rey was in a dire situation"
So was Luke when his arm got cut off.

"Who cares"
Who cares if my favorite franchise just drove off a cliff. The sequel trilogy was an absolute failure.

And if you just like Rey because she is a female, look no further than the clone wars, where Padme is the best example of a strong female character.

No no no no no no, NO. You cannot say “everything is subjective, ” and then say “Saying Rey is a Mary Sue is a false claim.” Those two statements are diametrically opposed to one another. Either “everything is subjective, but if you say Rey’s a Sue I’m going to politely disagree, ” OR “Saying Rey is a Mary Sue is a false claim.”

You can’t have both of these things, you absolute Ham Sandwich.

luke did not "inherit" flying skills. he had been flying for years and was known on Tattooine(sp) as a great pilot.

There are so many issues with TFA and TLJ, the whole Mary sue thing is a small part of it, but here we go, let's do this.
Point 1: The whole X-wing comparison makes no sense at all. Luke can pilot the X-wing because they are based on the T-16 skyhopper, which Luke would use on ski fi desert planet #587. "I used to bull's-eye womp rats in my T-16 back home." is a very important line from ANH, as it very quietly and quickly explains why Luke is so good, he even tells the fighter group that the shaft and a womp rat is about the same size (~2 meters). You even point this out in the video! lol. Rey can pilot the Millennium falcon because "plot" and "reasons", the falcon is a freighter, she has only piloted a speeder from what we know. She even tells Finn she had no idea how she did what she did in TFA. Sue side: 1 Anti Sue Side: 0.
Point 2: Disregarding someone knowledgeable in martial arts because he tells you the truth, that a staff and a sword are very different doesn't make the "anti sue side" look very strong. saying they are "stick like weapons" is BS, they are most certainly not. Go argue with scholagladiatoria, go tell him a staff and a sword are both "stick like weapons", I would love to see his reaction. Anyone who has handled those weapons will tell you the exact opposite, things like weight, length, and width are very different even between very similar weapons! Sue side: 2 Anti Sue Side: 0.
Point 3: "other than lifting rocks" is an incorrect statement, we've seen he use a mind trick in TFA, Luke didn't pull that off until ROTJ, Rey did it first try in movie 1 of 3. once again, you concede this in the video, so I'm not sure what the point of this was, as it doesn't strengthen your "side" as you leave out the part about Luke training up to the mind trick while Rey doesn't need to, this is an obvious example of cherry picking. Sue side: 3 Anti Sue Side: 0.
Point 4: he last part about it "being for children" makes no sense, that is not an argument. The Last Airbender, How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story, Monsters INC, etc. there are plenty of things "for children" that respect the intelligence of the audience, that don't fall back on "it's for kids" as an excuse for poor quality entertainment. TLA is one of the greatest stories of all time in terms of world building and internal consistency. Sue side: 4 Anti Sue Side: 0.
The main "points" made in this video were either too weak, not actual arguments, or were cherry picked in order to make it seem like they were facts in your favor, instead of against. Point 1 hurt your "side" more than anything, point 2 was horrible to bring up, as ignoring an expert on a subject is bad form, point 3 was just confusing, as statements you make in the beginning contradict things you say right after, plus the whole cherry picking aspect. Finally, point 4 wasn't even an argument.
I like your stuff man, but this video just doesn't hold up. 5/10

Mate, you can’t try and use logic to defend Rey’s Mary Sue abilities and then turn right around and go “this is a movie about space wizards for children”(paraphrasing another idiotic defender of this tripe) when confronted by an expert.

A pleasant comment section on a Star Wars Youtube video where people talk about Star Wars in a very civil manner? Now I have seen everything.

In episode 3 it is explained in the script, on screen, and through the narrative how Luke could have blown up the death star. He has flown before, and a lot actually, and he also says that "I used to bullseye womp and they aren't much bigger than...." etc. Yes he also calls upon the force, but the script left an opening for him to have done it even without the force.

My mother asked me once if girls can be Jedi just like boys. And was proud to say that the Jedi was equal opportunity for all..
