I read seven books in the month of October! And probably earned my lowest monthly average rating of all time considering I read two books I gave two stars, and one book I gave one star. So, if you enjoy negative reviews? I have a couple of books I truly hated this month.

Books mentioned:
The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell
Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older
Funny Boy by Shyam Selvadurai
The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
You Will Know Me by Megan Abbott
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

I feel you on school being death for October. I only read 1 book though, 7 is incredible!

That's what bothered me about The Other Typist, too. It wasn't what it was billed as at all. I spent the whole time waiting for them to hook up in some way, but...nope.

Stephen King books have a problem with being really long winded, so I completely agree that Pet Sematary could have been edited down. I prefer his short stories because of how drawn out his novels are.

I read Pet Sematary when I was like 14 and it is one of the books that got me into reading. Like before I thought every book was about romance or y'know like school-reads but that one showed me that there were books about stuff that I love like dead things coming back to life to murder you 😂

Oh no, I'm so sad you didn't like The God of Small Things! I think her writing is so beautiful, the plot is a little confusing, but it's basically about the caste system in India and how the twins' mom had an affair with an "untouchable" the lowest caste, and how that shaped their lives.

Your face when you said it's shocking that a stephen king book takes place in Maine made me chuckle quite a bit. I do think a lot of Stephen King's books do this thing where theyre overly long to build you up to something.

My favorite October read was Ms. Marvel Vol. 6. Other books I really liked were Career of Evil (reread), The Raven Boys and Furthermore.

I'm so pleased someone hated 'The God of Small Things' as much as I did. Luckily I wasn't reading it for a class, so could put it down and give up. Oh and I think I like your reviews better when you hate the book, so as much as I wish you a better reading month next month, I kind of hope there's at least one you hate because your Megan Abbott review was blooming hilarious.

Ha, I also finished a book that was so flowery I couldn't understand what was going on that was a Booker prize finalist. Maybe that's what the Booker prize is after??

I also attempted to read 'The God of Small Things' and hated it, I gave up about two thirds of the way through, then went to return it to my school library as I'd borrowed it, and the main librarian was off, and it's the second librarian's favourite book. And I hated it. It was extremely awkward, and she stopped talking to me for a while after that. :(

Why do you enjoy reading queer books so much? I've been watching your channel forever now and you've still not talked about why that's such a huge topic of interest for you (well, from what I've seen that is, maybe I missed it). Just curious :)

I am indian and we were supposed to be proud that the God of small things won that prize....but but I hated it....I read it twice (trying you be patriotic and all) but still don't understand..I hope someone can explain it to me too....my dad read it but if I ask him anything about the book he rolls his eyes...probably because he told me to be like her and write such books...I know he is embarrassed but thinks I don't

I really didn´t get into The God of Small Things either. I was very confused when I read it and didn´t like it. Later I had the thought, that the title is probably already telling you what to expect. The narrator is talking on and on about the insignifficant small things that happen. The big, important stuff, that usually makes the story is only mentioned here and there in passing. I don´t know if I´m right, but I kept the book and if I ever read it again I´ll try and confirm my theory ^^
