New chief aims to make British army twice as lethal

The new head of the army has said he aims to “double the lethality” of the force in three years and treble it by the end of the decade by buying smart ammunition such as missiles with multiple warheads and drone swarms that can kill more fighters at the same time.

General Sir Roly Walker, a former member of the SAS who survived a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, wants to make the overall army “more [like the] special forces”, coming up with novel solutions for ways to defeat the enemy without necessarily relying on expensive equipment such as more tanks.

We need troops, boots on the ground and the government to invest in the army like Poland is doing.

Twice as deadly on 1/2 the money…haven’t we heard this nonsense before…smaller more deadly…ie we can’t afford a real sized army

Tbh this guy is a straight up legend let’s see if he keeps that mentality in this role and doesn’t turn into a politician. As a soldier he is genuinely one of the best

Start recruiting the right type of people for the right jobs then ……no more excuses Boy Scouts recruited to infantry roles and if prison rehabilitation works then go back to recruiting from ex offenders…..PTSD is running out at over 25% and is costing a fortune so use psychometric testing to evaluate the recruits …..there’s a massive difference between a peace keeping role in Bosnia where people skills are important and Afghanistan and Iraq where killing takes place so recruit the right soldiers …….its been stated that in world war 2 that 90% of the killing has been done by 10% of the soldiers so recruit those types ……differentiate between peace keeping regiments and full force war battalions …

Think the new rangers rifle should be standard issue for aNy front line solider with each squad having a sniffer dog - think the
75th rangers do a good job with what kit

That’s all well and good …so long as we don’t get attacked in the next three years ! Pro-active NOT reactive is a non brainer in warfare !

I'm a US Army veteran and a lifelong military historian. However, none of that makes my opinion more valid than that of a UK citizen and most importantly those UK citizens who made the British Army part of their lives.
I am very concerned about the state of the UKs forces. I see a major confrontation between with either Russia or China on the near horizon. This logically means that Western militaries are going to need to orient themselves back towards Cold War style heavy mechanized warfare.
I understand that the UK's budget doesn't allow for quantitative increases in all her forces at once. I also aware that getting the QE and PW into the water and purchasing and training up several squadrons of the most expensive fighter in the world was a major expense. But for the last 40 years [or more] the British Army has been least and last in halls of Parliament and in the MoD, and it time and past time for that to change.
I strongly feel that we [the Western world] are approaching a time where we're going to need trained soldiers. And the time to get them is **now.**
A sincere and respectful tip of the Stetson to my cousins across the pond from an old American cavalryman. Stay safe, you lot.

Twice as lethal with half as many actual war fighters.
Fabulous tech-based gobbledygook.

What the hell is this guy on about. We need tens of thousands more of violence trained men, not business speak!!! The UK army has gone to hell.

You need to address many issue technology and weapons dont cut much these day. You clearly lack mic, strategic depth both as a country size and as resources. May be you lack an army having both quality and quantity. You need to fix many thing which is rather difficult but not impossible.
