Good list. Many beginners think they are immortal and indestructible and will linearly progress to world records.

I work for the railway and have issues with not getting enough sleep. I feel like the only thing I love doing is strength training. I’m always so tired because I barely sleep and I end up getting frustrated and hit everything at an rpe 10.fucked my groin up about 6 weeks ago and the past 2 weeks I haven’t been able to squat or deadlift. I feel almost embarrassed how I let myself get injured. once I figure out my groin issues I’m gonna learn to take it easy and worry about longevity. I hope you guys stay healthy and pain free.

When I was in my teens, I could do any and every accessory lift I wanted to an RPE 10 on every set and rarely having to be mindful of form beyond the very basics and still would PR every week for like 3 years. Now at just 27, I have to resist the sedentary lifestyle of a desk job and do prehab stuff just to prevent knee, hip, and lower back pain so that I can actually train in the gym. Movement quality becomes so much more important on every lift. The balancing act of doing your own programming becomes 100x harder than it is when you are 18.

Thank you so much, this was the sort of my wake up call that I just can't work non-stop especially due to the part of progression being non linear and that as u get more advanced u need more recovery, feels really good to be 17 and being able to get all this help for free love your channel keep up the great work

Great advice! Can you do a video with a recommended routine/program for flexibility and mobility to prevent injuries?

Yo this is hugely amazing advice. I come from the gymnasticbodies program and their entire focus is mobility and injury prevention

40 years old here with 4+ yrs of competitive powerlifting experience finally learning some of these lessons, I am a juggernaut ai user and finally realized how helpful Chad’s suggested warm up exercises are and it only takes 10 min

Managing fatigue and recovery are the other side of coin that are more important than actual training/workout in the gym but these are often neglected mainly because these are rather subjective and not as clearly quantifiable as training parameters and modalities.

People who can handle these subjective matters are the ones who go a long way in journey of fitness.

Great upper body mobility exercises: hanging and different forms of hanging

The fatigue thing is huge. When I started working out, it wasn't unheard of for me to be in the gym five days a week. Now with nearly a decade of experience under my belt, I go three times a week. In a perfect world, I'd lift one day, take the next day off, and repeat.

Good video wish ya was my trainer!! 👍 So what’s a good approach to to the basic lifts? Sets and reps? How much rest is necessary? Especially if maxing out.

Stretching is something I wish I had done when I first started lifting as well I use to think just warming up well was enough. I've hurt progress on multiple lifts just because of poor mobility in my shoulders and back. Over the last year or so I've been consistently stretching probably less then 10 minutes a day and I've seen good results in my bench and deadlift just because my form had been able to improve from the increased mobility.

I turned 28 this past year and the comment “the difference 21 and 28 is huge” is dead ass real. Everything for me lately has changed to try to support longevity and recovery. EVERYTHING goes into that. I spend like 45 minutes every day just trying to rehab something. Take care of yourselves dudes, repair the damage so you can keep working out

It’s blessing to hear that as a 19-year-old guy
