Why It's So Hard to Improve in Competitive Games

Hey guys! Here's a vid on why it's hard to improve in Valorant. I find that a lot of players are frustrated because they're not seeing any improvement, and that's fair. But more importantly, it's because there aren't any clear indicators that you're getting better. That's not Riot's fault, but that's really how competitive, complex games work.

Hey guys! Short video today, just addressing player frustrations on improvement. In competitive games like Valorant, there are barely any "true" indicators that you're getting better. Rank is not accurate. I just wanted to point this out because improvement should be the goal, not a higher rank. Anyway, hope you enjoy the vid! Looking forward to your comments :)

“If you’re improving, rank will come eventually.’’ All I ever needed to hear, thanks Master Eggwick!

The thing is, everyone improves and it means that you improve a little even if you don't rank up and stay at the same rank

You are improving in Valorant, trust me. But everyone is too. That’s the problem. If the Gold players improve, then they can only rank up if the Plat players do not improve. Let’s put it into numbers. If the whole community improves by +1 after 2 months. No one will rank up. The only way to rank up is to improve more than a player of your own rank.

I absolutely agree with the “mindset is key” statement. Having a good mindset going in can prevent you from making stupid mistakes when you’re frustrated and focused only on one thing at a time. It can also prevent rage, which is quite key (i accidentally broke my monitor in a fit of rage once). Having a good mindset will help you in the long run. You don’t have to be the best, you just have to be as good as you can be.

Love the video eggwick, for me learning Valorant is more about mindset improvement than ingame improvement. It is hard, and you need to be consistent, for that you need a routine. This mindset can be used outside Valorant for any skill you wish to acquire.
Also important to mention somedays you're godlike aim and some days you can't hit a shot, those are standard deviations of your actual skill fluctuating around your average skill. You put the hours to increase your average skill and this is the consistency in the long term you're looking for.
Cheers

Ive been watching eggwick for months and yesterday, after months of practice, I got out of iron 1. I'm now iron 3 almost bronze. I've been in iron 1 for 6 months so I'm very happy! Thank you eggwick!!!

Huge tips actually. A good mindset resetter. This actually made me realize what I've been doing wrong. Thanks for this. Subbed

Its funny now that I think of it. After watching your fundemental vids and outplays ive promoted from bronze 2 to silver 3. Its a huge leap for me that I think I could not get without you. Thanks!

I started iron in beta, at the end got gold and was so happy, now I'm hardstuck diamond I, keep up the grind bois (also smurfs might demotivate you but you should know that you still improve going against them and one day you will clap kids of that rank)

Hi new subscriber here, just wanted to thank you for making this video. I have been stuck at silver 2 since act 1 and have struggled a lot since I keep getting smurfs on the enemy team once I rank up. This video made me realize the importance of mentality along with perseverance or dedication to further improving oneself. Here’s hoping that I get even at gold 1 this ep 2!

i actually went back to see my only single 6 man ace ( was S2 - S3 now i'm diamond 1 ) i noticed all these mistakes

- panic
- low crosshair placement
- reloading after every kill
- bad game sense
- kill hungry
- too much peaking
- too much crouching
- no counter strafing
- not playing for info first
- wide swinging
- no pre-aiming angles
- hyper aggression as sage
- not rotating when most of the players are in site
- not playing with the strengths of your weapon

these are all mistakes that i found

these 2 are personal mistakes that aren't necessarily mistakes for everyone: |

- high sens ( too hard to control for me )
- crosshair was bad ( didn't know how to get a crosshair that works for me )

the difference between that clip and now are probably around 850 hours

currently i have 1150 hours on valorant
