Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

When I worked in construction over the 5 years I did it. I honestly just wore a carhartt hoodie and a a few long sleeve shirts. With how much I was moving I kept warm even on the coldest of Detroit days. And it allowed me to remove layers through the day. Also gave me the flexibility I needed in my arms.

Hey Carl,
First off, thank you for all of your in-depth videos on work wear. Your focus on form, function and style means I get to look great getting the job done. I discovered your channel several years ago because I was on a job in upstate NY and shredded all the tacticool pants I brought for the job. I was complaining to anyone else on the crew that would listen about how my overpriced pants were not cutting it until one of them said to go get some carhartts and shut the hell up already. Growing up in Miami Carhartt wasn’t really a thing so I started doing some online research and your channel caught my eye. Since then (partly due to your videos) I have spent a small fortune on Carhartt jackets and pants as well as two or three Filson items and my favorite of them all, my Flint & Tinder wool lined waxed canvas trucker jacket! I work in the film industry so I’m outdoors 16 hours a day when on set so your guidance has come in handy. I just watched your Best Carhartt jackets of 2023 video to see if there is yet another jacket that I just can’t live with out and it left me with a feeling that Carhartt is heading in a direction that I’m not sure is good. By that I mean all of the new materials and getting away from the classics. It seems that they are trying to capture the the more sport / camping / Starbucks crowd. If so, I’m sure it’s great for their bottom line but I’m concerned that I just found a great thing and now it’s all going to change.
Since you have your finger on their pulse, what do you think? Thanks again for all your work.
Rick

Love an actual scientifically measured test instead of marketing BS. Wish I could find one of these for hunting clothes. Would like to know how the uber expensive Sitka and First Lite stuff stacks up against their claims. Thanks for this content.

Thank you so much for making this exhaustive breakdown. It was incredibly helpful in narrowing down what I wanted out of Carhartt's large selection. I went with number 12 the Super Dux Insulated Jacket. I do commercial pest control. Hopefully it serves me well 👍

I own a #6, and it is so warm that it will damn near burn you out of it. Definitely warmer than it ever needed to be here in Southern Illinois. Our winters rarely get very cold anymore and it hardly ever snows.

The best reason to purchase one though, is that unlike the popular hiking brands like North face and Patagonia, it's as warm as they are and it doesn't rip like their jackets. Always seem to. You. Snag them once, and you can kiss them goodbye! The same cannot be said about my Carhartt jacket. It is made with cordura and is extremely hard to snag or rip.

I’m getting a carhartt jacket because my other one has holes in it from being used a lot. These jackets are very reliable and will definitely buy another when the time comes.

I have to say, I got the Montana jacket last year to wear while I plow snow with my tractor (which doesn’t have a cab) and I have to say it’s the second warmest jacket I own not by much. Easily could wear with just a base layer down to 10F. Perfect for sitting on a tractor for an hour or two. I just wish it was a little longer in the back.

While maybe not the warmest, my personal favorite is the Bartlett jacket. It’s distinct from Active jackets with its signature chest pockets, but similar enough that you know it’s genuinely made for work and not a fashion piece like some newer Carhartt jackets.

However… my favorite RARE Carhartt jacket is the Aztec Active jacket, with a southwestern style band across the chest and shoulders. Even better if you can find it in red. Red is a RARE Carhartt color, but they never disappoint.

Agree 100% about the high-viz jacket. Finding a high-viz jacket that doesn't suck to wear in cold & wet weather is surprisingly hard. Great to see Carhartt making a good winter option.

Always enjoy watching these Carhartt warmth rankings. One thing I will note though, I really dislike how Carhartt stripped the names of all of these tried and true jackets & coats. When they made the change a few years ago and as they said “We made it easier to find the info you need by simplifying our tags” in reality they gave all these coats & jackets long & confusing names.
For instance one of their most popular jackets- The Bartlett jacket is now called the -RELAXED FIT WASHED DUCK SHERPA-LINED UTILITY JACKET
Or the Steel Jacket is now called the -
FULL SWING® RELAXED FIT RIPSTOP INSULATED JACKET

I think for the average customer (at least to me) all the names sound the same now, not sure it helps out anyone trying to identify one of their favorite jackets now.

Crazy to think the Detroit jacket isn’t the warmest jacket ever. That’s the warmest jacket I own! Love It so much. Great video.

I've worked for Carhartt for over 10 years and my favorite for cold weather is the Yukon Extremes Active Jac. But for fall temps my favorite is the original Sandstone Detroit Jacket, J97. Not the new Detroit Jacket, which I don't care for. It's still a nice jacket but I prefer the older ones that I have, and I have 3 of them in 3 different colors. I laughed when you mentioned the Detroit Jacket and how Matthew McConaughey wore one in the movie Interstellar. When that movie came out we could not keep those things on the shelf and they were flying out the door. My Detroit jackets are all what they called sandstone and not the more rigid duck material, and the new one is only available in black and Carharttt brown which is all they have now for the Detroit Jacket. And I don't care for the drop tail on the new Detroit jacket and you don't get the snaps on either side at the back to cinch it up around the waist a little. I have one in Carhartt brown, one in gray, or what I think they called gravel and one in a color they called camel. Altogether I probably got about fifteen or sixteen different Carhartt coats and jackets. And I wish they would bring back one they called the Santa Fe which I have in a two tone black and gray and has a western yoke styling. But I think the most valuable one I have is the 100th anniversary Chore Coat which came in denim with a lining of 100% wool from Faribault mills. And has a label on the inside signed by the person who sewed it.

I love this video. I've watched it many times now. I wish that there would be a Carhartt store with every single one of these jackets in stock.

This was really an awesome showcase of a whole brands line up. Gonna look closer at the Montana jacket, and the Rain Defender Vest.

Thanks for the jacket rundown, really helpful. I think they sometimes give certain products different names for things here in the UK.
Cheers 🍻
