Even if the design itself doesn't change that much instantly, it's still a big win if production can be streamlined, making suits more available as well as cheaper. There are a ton of suit concepts out there (technical research projects). A lot of them are sadly underfunded. Perhaps a move like this enables some of them to find more investment aimed at a commercial bid.

a small suggestion : increase distance between camera and sitting position.

The big question that I've never seen adequately answered is: Why? Why is NASA abandoning the xEMU suit?

I had heard nothing but positive reports of the xEMU suit's capabilities, and I know that they sunk a lot of time and money into it. Why this sudden pivot?

a proper mars suit could be a 'beachball' with arms and legs sticking out (waterlocks as airlocks make living easy)

What do you think about the proposed timeline? It sounds like companies will only have a few months to develop a brand new EVA suit sufficiently enough to submit a proposal. Doesn’t that feel a bit rushed for such an essential piece of hardware that we may use for decades to come? Perhaps I’m misunderstanding either the pace or the current development status.

Award in May 2022, EVA demonstration in 2023 and possible Moon landing in 2024. Is it just me who finds the timeline incredibly optimistic? Only a company already working on spacesuits has any chance to be on time.

Has this channel an official Discord Server?, I would be really interested on it :)

Those suits were already in old sci fi magazines from the 50s, lol there's nothing new under the sun.

It seems like a huge mistake for NASA to cancel their own suit three months before even asking for a replacement. I don't think NASA is s serious about Artemis.
