This is very hard to teach people because they get comfort knowing their dead loved ones immediately transcend to a better place. I have a serious question brothers and sisters. When Jesus was on the cross, He told one of the thieves "today you will be with Me in paradise". And the rich man Lazarus who was cruel to the beggar and went to hell, he wanted to go back to warn his brother. Maybe that was just a parable though. I don't believe we can talk to deceased loved ones, but Jesus did say those words to one of the thieves. Maybe somebody can post a reliable teaching on the subject if you know of one. Thanks.

Dear brother, I have confidence in you and I agree that the dead don't go immediately to heaven when they die. But there IS scripture that tells us where they DO go. It's in Luke 16:22 and 23, "And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." It's as simple as that. One is a temporary waiting place. The other is permanent.

I know that many people prefer to take the word of an idolater Solomon over the word of our savior Jesus, but not me. Solomon said that the dead know nothing which contrary to what Jesus said here in Luke. But Solomon was led astray to serve the false gods of his wives. Jesus was never married and never sinned.

Also, Jesus said that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Since he is the God of Abraham, that means Abe is alive somewhere. And since Abe could talk to the rich man in Luke 16, that means that both he and the rich man were conscious and aware of their surroundings.

Again, I have confidence in you, brother. Keep up the good work for the Lord!
