President Donald Trump will make his "Liberation Day" announcement focused on tariffs from the Rose Garden Wednesday afternoon. The president is expected to announce these new tariffs from the White House at the "Make America Wealthy Again Event" beginning at 4 p.m.

As an American you do not seem to understand.... We have HUNDREDS of companies making the same things we import right here in the USA. So, THOSE companies are now going to make a FORTUNE selling here within the country where there are no tariffs within. We also will have more companies popping up locally to fill the gaps of ANY product imported. This is how the USA used to be, we produced our own goods. And now, I think these tariffs will help us do it again. I for one am starting to once again look for the "made in America" tag in clothing, electronics and even labels on our food. It is NICE to see America stand up and take charge of our economy instead of all the bigwigs on the world do it with tons of tariffs. I think most people are missing the real reason behind these tariffs. As they say, "follow the money". The importer has to pay a tariff, which is passed on to the consumer. So I think most people get that the consumer is in effect paying the tariff. But what needs to be examined is where does this tariff money go? The importer pays the tariff to the US gov't, which is why Trump keeps talking about how much money they will bring in and how they will make us rich.... the "us" being the US gov't.... not us the US citizen because we're the ones paying. But every dollar the US gov't takes in from other sources is a dollar in tax breaks for the wealthy. In short, the tariffs are Trump's way of pushing the tax burden from the wealthy (like himself) to the rest of us. Follow the money.

It is an intentional paradigm shift of cutting direct income taxes, which benefits the rich, who pay a much smaller percentage of their income to buy consumer goods and shift it to the poor and middle class by replacing the lost government revenue with an indirect consumption tax.
MAGA supporters will cheer the income tax cuts without realizing that they are the ones that will bear the greatest burden of the indirect consumption tax.

In fact, most MAGA supporters actually believe Trump's flat-out lie that foreign nations will pay for Trump's tariffs.

Good, idea but at the WORST possible time. Prices are high already, just wait till the tariffs kick in, it's going to be more expensive than ever. We voted for him in hopes of him lowering prices, only to have him do the opposite. If the tariffs were at least used to fund social security, pay down the dept, and invest in our infrastructure that would be one thing, but if he uses it to give billionares a tax break, then I'll be voting Democrat next time. If the prices of the consumer products are to be lower, USA would have had all goods produced and consumed independantly without having to depend on overseas import merchandises prior to the declaration of this new tariff measures against those major export countries.
