They need an age limit. Mandatory retirement. With that important of a job affecting people too much, we need people with the cognitive ability to do their job.

It's not a health issue. It's a perspective issue. Progress is held back by incumbents that are largely stuck in a previous generation's thinking. It's healthy to keep a democracy aligned with the people it governs. Most of these people won't be around for another decade but their rule making will.

Well, we have an age of typical retirement.... 65 they should start thinking about it and fully retire and enjoy the rest of their life. And enjoy all the money that they raked in.

Gotta love how in the US you are STILL having the debate of age and term limits in 2023

The senior congress members have multiple lobbyists attached to how they vote and the agreements can last decades! So now the members think it’s normal to be in all 3 branches until they’re 100 ! 😂

A person who is senile or delusional is too senile and delusional to realize that they are senile and delusional. 🤪🙃😵‍💫

65 mandatory retirement. No exceptions. From the local dog catcher to the president of the United States. Judges as well.

Sober 60 year olds wreck at the same rate as all drugged drivers. There is a reason people should retire at 65. The older the more pronounced this gets. Cognitive decline is real.

Federally mandated retirement ages between 60 and 65 for government officials would achieve a twofold goal. Firstly, it would help officials stay in touch with the realities and concerns or "pulse" of the broader population, as the median age of the US is 38.9 (2023). By allowing a one-generation margin (15 - 20 years), it ensures a fresh perspective and alignment with the overall voting populace, social norms, and technological progress. Secondly, implementing age restrictions would also prioritize the well-being of officials, ensuring they can serve effectively without compromising their mental and physical health as they advance in age toward retirement. Age restriction measures strike a balance between experience and rejuvenation, and would promote a more dynamic and accountable government.

I say there should be no age limit BUT they should definitely do cognitive test starting after 50 every single year. And safe guards in place to not let them cheat it. Like not choosing the doctor who can perform it, includes drug test incase of performace enhancers, being able to get multiple doctors opinions but not able to know or choose those doctors. And tested after any public mess up like these. Even have polls every year where residents can vote and get them tested again. Not every old person has problems but when they start develping them they shouldent have power and resign for any and every position. There are alot of smart old people that really know are system and arnt bad and should still have the opportunity to work in politics
