Honestly, Slightly Mad Studios only had to do 1 small thing and far few people would complain: The Name.
Placing this as a numbered title, where CARS stood for Community Assisted Racing SIMULATOR, Is just a bad reputation move. I had this opinion since it was first revealed and it still holds up. Project CARS 3 is the Cars 2 of the series.

They killed the shit outta the game with 3. Its so easy to have made it like 2, but with the added on cars like 3...they could have taken a queue from forza motorsport but they fumbled HARD. Its a shame... especially when AWD cars stall at sharp turns

It looks like Project CARS 3 does have it's issues and it's not whether it's a sim or an arcade game. Even as a sim player (still think a set set up wheel in a game made for wheels is far superior over a controller, but i don't want to discuss this now) i was quite positive when i heard that Project CARS 3 will have arcade gameplay mixed with a sim physics engine because SMS never were really good at making sims. Some of the cars in PCars 2 were good, but a lot of them were just weird to drive. Same with features. Good ideas, but a lot if it wasn't polished or even buggy and never got fixed.

But what we got with Project CARS 3 is imho just one thing: Recycling

90% of the cars and tracks have already been in Project CARS 2 (some of the content is even missing, like Spa Francorchamps or Le Mans for example), the AI is terribly balanced, the performance is worse and compared to Project CARS 2 or Automobilista 2 (which uses the PCars 2 engine) PCars 3 even looks worse with it's exaggerated amount post processing, lack of proper anti aliasing etc.

I don't know what SMS were doing, but it looks like they were trying to make some quick cash with two very unpolished games (Project CARS 3 and the Fast & Furious games). They both could have been good games if the devs had put a bit more time and love into the developing work ... but they didn't. It's really sad. They were trying to reach a larger audience and managed to achieve the exact opposite.

Imho they should also do a Demo version of this like what they did with PCARS2 so people can gauge first if they want the car physics before actually spending the cash. I refunded Grid 2019 coz the physics is very wonky, you can brake like 30m before a corner where in other games you brake at 75m. So if this game is anything like Grid 2019 then its not for me and the only way to know for sure is not hearing from other people but to play the game myself thru a demo version.

Nice review. The car class mismatch is a pet hate for me. I prefer sim racers, but I can play arcade racing no problem (enjoyed grid reboot, driveclub, Forza horizon) it just niggles me seeing NASCAR’s vs GT3’s etc. I think that’s why I enjoyed the class system in GTsport. I’ve still not dived into PC3, I’m worried it will handle like need for speed shift.

I'm so late to the party on this but.. they finally fixed the gamepad issue with project cars?! It was SO BAD in 1 and 2! I passionately called it out in testing and even provided solutions, but it fell on deaf ears. It drove me CRAZY because it was fine in early testing in project cars 1, but after about a month they silently changed it and I swear to christ NOBODY noticed but me. I felt like a crazy person screaming into the void. I'm definitely gonna check out 3 now because my memories of testing 1 with the good gamepad code are sublime. As far as controllers in AC, I don't entirely agree. The defaults def suck and it's a pain in the ass to tweak the settings to get it feeling good, but it's totally possible and once you find that goldylocks gamepad tune you'll be lapping like crazy.

Right, I'm off to try this, now!

i didn't like pc1 and pc2 but this game its different i have played always all my sim racing games with a wheel and this game feels about right with a wheel close to a sim in my opinion than arcadeeee like everyone says!!!

i like your approach to the controller vs steering wheel issue. Everybody can play as he likes. In my opinion the problem is the (most) hardcore sim nerds who think that racing games should be developed especially for them. They don't care about all the others. After some initial skepticism I will give the game a chance when it is on sale.

How I missed your reviews! (I did not receive any notification for it btw) And I was eagerly waiting for that specific review.
Part of why I love your channel and like to listen to you is because I’ve got mostly the same taste as you. We do love the same games and I have that special connection with these old games like the Gran Turismo, Forza, Test drive and early need for speed series. I myself own about a hundred racing games from the early 90s to project cars 3 which is the latest in my collection. I’ve played thousands of hours of these franchises including the Project cars series (which I’m a fan of!) and.... I just LOVE Project CARS 3.
There has been a huge backlash on it. Sim racers calling it shite and even people who didn’t even try the game are calling it names. But fact is this is probably my favorite racer of that generation.
People forget the purpose of a game. We talking being realistic, beautiful, full of content (which this game offer to some extent with pretty demanding and believable physics, pretty nice graphics on the Xbox one x and a very nice variety of cars and tracks) when the most important part of it is being FUN.
This game has in my opinion the perfect blend of demanding physics and controller handling. You can feel the limits of the car and know how and when to push it while still having precise control of it with joysticks. I think they nailed it and going back and forth between this and Forza horizon 4 that I still play is making Forza feel not so fun anymore and veeery heavy.
It has flaws. Glitches. It’s more gamey with xp and stuff like that. But you can chose any car and track to have fun like in the previous entries. No pit stops or tyre wear (I still think the game would be as fun with these additions) is also a down side because Forza and Gran Turismo still manage to be fun with them. But...
If anyone remembers correctly the game has never been fully accepted as a sim and received a lot of bad critics for being unpolished, having jerky physics or being not fun enough to play. So they changed it to make it fun and enjoyable while still maintaining the core physics and spirit (track based realistic-ish physics racing game)
I never had that much fun in a racing games in years. Gran Turismo Sport was too 1% for my taste and once I finished the carreer, I simply put the game down after a few months. Forza 7 started wrong and became pretty good in the end. But after 500hrs it became stale and the physics were too drifty for my tastes. The need for speed series went downhill a long time ago...
This one is what I excpect form a racing game. The physics are believable, the gameplay is fun, races are exciting and challenges are demanding enough. It looks good on my One X, pretty good I’d say. I love rival mode, I can’t get enough of it. Everyday a new challenge. One car. One track. One condition. And a leaderboard. I love it.
Regarding the name...
I will push it and say I understand why they called it project cars 3. Most people argue with the name. But after trying hard two times to please the sim racing community to no success they finally understood what they had to be. They can’t compete with the sims of this world. But they can definitely fit into that evolving simcade space.
Very underrated game.

I loved the 1st and 2nd game's, I DO also like this game, it kinda feels like GT3 with new cars and new graphics, just my opinion.

I will give this game definitely a try in 6 months. But paying the full price is too much. I remember when pC2 came out and they told it was more controller friendly than pC. But as it turned out it still wasn't controller friendly.
After pC2 and GT sport I don't tend to buy a game full price because i don't know what the developers will deliver.
Enjoying FH3 right now, i will try FH4 until GT7 arrives and then i will see if a ps5 is available. Not rushing at all.

I’m afraid I have to disagree with your comments regarding the car classes and track selection.
Car classes: Despite good variety, the cars have just been chucked into strange classes.
Since PC1 the car classes have remained true to real life, you’d only see the correct cars racing each other that would do so in real life. In PC3 even though it’s meant to be a sim which is what it was advertised as, you see rallycross cars, NASCAR’s racing GTE, GT3 machinery, that’s not fun it makes no sense for a sim, there’s nothing professional about seeing a NASCAR racing a GT3 car at Silverstone.

Secondly track choices have reduced. We have gained more fictional circuits than real world circuits, we lost two major circuits Le Mans & SPA that were standard in the previous game.

The game is abysmal, it others nothing new to the plate features that are in this game are in better games, the game is a money grab and it can’t even do that well. PC2 has more players per 30 days than PC3, not even that just in general there are more players on PC2 than there is on PC3 according to SteamCharts.
