Were Battlefields 3, 4, and V any better than Battlefield 2? Has Battlefield reached new development heights in the past decade?

No and no - but that's not to say you didn't, couldn't, or shouldn't have enjoyed those titles. We did, though, deserve more and Battlefield fans familiar with the refractor engine titles will tell you how and why. A decade of Frostbite's Battlefield has left many of us - myself included - relatively disappointed. Battlefield 2 is (still) the series' zenith.

i downloaded bf2 because i have a battlefield channel for gameplay, my xbox live was down so i couldnt get gameplay so had to download cod 1 pc and bf2 pc and what a game it is, the scale of it, the way it flows. i loved it, needs a remaster

Yeah, it is PEAK Battlefield, especially for 1 reason, *Modding*

Tbh the fog or limited draw distance is more of a gameplay feature than technical limitation.
Of course the draw distance had to be limited with the hardware at the time but in gameplay it enabled possibilities, like sneaking around to hit the base structures or retreating, which are not present anymore today.
At last it is another feature which did make Bf2 the great game it is.
