At Seventeen - Janis Ian

I've loved this song since I was a teenager and it was requested by Gill Phipps a few weeks ago so I thought I'd give it a go.

Being a teenager can be so confusing and lonely and sad and I think everyone keeps that self-conscious teenage version of themselves somewhere inside. I find this song really comforting that it's not just me!

I can remember singing and playing this in a bar at 18 yrs of age on a terrace pub in South Africa on the beach. So nostalgic, beautifully performed Charlotte ❤️

You should put together a big list of "old" songs from the sixties and seventies and let your subscribers select enough to fill a CD then release it. You did this song so well and Fast car was awesome. I know a lot of songwriters don' t like to do covers but you do them so well. Cheers.

Charlotte, I'm amazed that you do 7-8 hours most days. Even in my prime I did half that, except at Christmas in the snow in Germany in '86 I did 7-8 hours for 22 days on the trot - but I was in love, and so had a lot of motivation! (I hope that, unlike me, you are managing to put a regular amount into savings!). I am a little concerned though: I know how easy it is to get too comfortable with one's repertoire, playing level, etc. I love that you do such great songs as this one and other classics - you play them really well. I listened to a few others of your covers too, to compare your tempo, and they seem fine. The only thing which you might be able to improve was that on this one you seem to slow down and speed up multiple times, without realising. Perhaps you just learnt the song; you indicated that. The variation is not huge - many people wouldn't notice. I just remember how I could "get away" with a few mistakes when I played. I'm working harder on those details now, but sometimes things slip through the net. I hope the gigs and CD's go really well for you - that's a very important part of what you do. I think you're excellent, and I would certainly listen to a few songs and drop a nice coin if I saw you ;-)

Nice work - one small observation - we have just come across your work, you have a lot of pluck and a nice guitar style. We understand that the stuff that earns money will tend to be the more saccharine sheeranesque pop - but when you do good material like this AND avoid that breathy / weedy sound at the end of lines (worst offender 'We'll meet again') your true voice begins to come through and the songs have more genuine pathos and meaning - i.e. they will draw a bigger crowd in the long run because they will really communicate. Just a thought - allow your own voice through more often and develop it's Real powers. Keep up the good work. Listen broadly. :)
