Air Jordan 1 Customized For WNBA Player

Показать описание
Welcome back to another episode of customs and restorations with Vick. Today Vick is making a custom Air Jordan 1 for WNBA Legend Sue Bird.
Sue is a five-time Olympic Gold Medalist, four-time WNBA Title winner, and two-time NCAA Title winner…how can you argue with that resume?
Of all of Vick’s customs, this has got to be one of the most nerve-racking. Working on an iconic shoe like the Jordan 1 for a basketball Icon is not something to scoff at.
This custom Air Jordan 1 was commissioned by the Phoenix Mercury, who wants to honor the GOAT as she heads towards retirement. Hopefully, Vick can do this custom justice and pay the proper respects to someone who’s done so much for the game of basketball.
The shoe of choice for this custom project is the Pine Green Air Jordan 1. A fitting base shoe considering Sue spent her entire WNBA career with the Seattle Storm.
Vick started by removing the Nike and Jordan patches from the shoe so that he can replace them with some custom Sue Bird patches later on. Then he used some acetone and cotton balls to prep the leather for some new paint.
After receiving some further guidance from Julian and changing the mockup last minute, we’re ready to start painting. Vick applied a coat of white paint before painting the swoosh and collar yellow, and then used a bright green to cover the toe box
Then Vick used leather filler to fill in the holes left by removing the Jordan Wings logo and painted that area in a darker shade of green. Moving on to the tongue tags, Vick used some Rit Dye to dye the tags yellow.
With some help from Julian, the shoes received some engravings from the laser engraver, featuring Sue’s number #10 and some other cool details like four championship trophies to commemorate her titles with the Seattle Storm. These engravings were iced out to look like real trophies.
Another personal touch was the custom Wings logo Julian designed. This replaced the OG Jordan Wings logo, and featured Sue’s name and the Seattle Storm logo.
Vick used another stencil to paint a green lightning bolt down the side of the shoe. Then Vick sewed the new yellow tongue tags into place and got to work on the shoelaces. Vick added some “Birdy” logos to the laces and got some D-Nice custom insoles with a nice message from the Phoenix Mercury to complete the shoe.
And there you have it. A complete Seattle Storm custom Jordan 1 for Sue Bird. Something this nice deserves a rightful owner, and it’s only fitting that the GOAT is going to have the honor of rocking this pair.
Shoutout to Vick, this is easily some of his best work.
