Just put all of Merle's songs in a hat and pull one out--it's guaranteed to be gold. I saw Merle twice in Texas back in 1998. I am so thankful that I got to see him live before he passed. There will never be another like him.

Merle was in prison for awhile. He got out. He was pardoned by Ronald Regan. I was lucky enough to see him in concert.

This was my grandma's favorite Merle song. Mama Tried, was her next favorite Merle song. We'd sit out on the porch, with the windows open, so we could hear it better. I remember chasing fireflies (we called them lightning bugs), while listening to Merle. Good times.

My favorite song of his IF WE MAKE IT THROUGH DECEMBER . For 37 years I operated heavy equipment and for about the 1st 15 years I was laid off from about the middle of November to March . My wife and I had to buy all Christmas gifts in the summer for our kids

Merle changed country music. He brought the Lefty Frizzell style back and took it to another level.

I had the opportunity to emcee a concert of his in the 90’s, about the time “Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star” was atop the charts. Hung out for about 30 minutes backstage in his dressing room.
Happy to report he was as polite, folksy and respectful as I had hoped he’d be. One of those rare interviews that just flowed like a conversation.

I have said this before, I love classic country music. Merle Haggard is of those singers that never gets old to listen to. My grandparents and a few aunts and cousins had a country cover band when I was growing up. Merle Haggard was always among the artists they did, along with Anne Murray, Kitty Wells and several others. Merle did a duet with Willy Nelson called Poncho and Lefty. I think you’d like that one. Merle was just as good live as he was in his records. Thanks for doing him.

He was great in person. I also got to visit him in the bus. He was so kind.

I was so fortunate to have seen Merle several times, starting in 1969. He always had world-class musicians backing him up and never disappointed. I would suggest you go back to his "Branded Man" album. Every song is brilliant!

Merle has always been my favorite since 1962. I live in the San Joaquin Valley, north of Bakersfield, where it all started. I have been to see two of Merle's concerts, in Fresno, and Tulare. His voice will never be duplicated, that's for sure!!! He has a couple of classic songs I would like to recommend: "I'll never swim Kern River again", and "Tulare Dust". His country music is akin to Elvis' music, timeless!!!

I cried the day Merle died. Such a loss for real country music. He didn’t have a bad song but “The Way I Am” is just pure class.

Merle has 4 sons who sing also.( Marty, Noel, Scott and Ben.)The youngest, Ben Haggard sounds just like him. You can find his songs on You Tube.

Wonderful reaction to our "Hag". His voice always makes vivid pictures in my mind when I listen to him. One of my absolute favorites is "If We Make It Through December". Whether you react to it or not I do hope you'll find time to listen to it. Thank you so much for the wonder times we have watching you and sharing in your musical journey.
